The tree canopy is the local roofing problem
Big oaks, hickories, and poplars are why people love the neighborhoods around UNC, and they are why roofs here need more attention.
Constant debris. Leaves, twigs, acorns, and seed pods fill gutters and valleys year-round, not just in autumn. A packed valley or gutter holds water against the roof edge and rots fascia and decking.

Planned communities. Southern Village, Meadowmont, and other planned neighborhoods have architectural guidelines that specify approved shingle colors and profiles. Installing a color that was not approved can mean doing the job twice.

Can moss and algae be cleaned off instead of replacing the roof?
Often, yes. Light algae streaking and early moss can be treated and the roof can get zinc or copper strips at the ridge to slow regrowth. Heavy moss that has lifted shingle edges, or shingles that have already lost significant granules, is a different conversation. We will tell you honestly which one you have.
How do I know if a fallen limb damaged my roof?
You often cannot from the ground. Impact can crack or bruise shingles and fracture decking while leaving the surface looking intact, and the leak shows up months later. After a limb comes down on the roof, get it inspected.
Do you handle HOA and historic district approvals?
We help. We will identify the guidelines that apply, provide manufacturer and color documentation, and supply what you need for a submittal. The application itself typically goes in under the owner’s name.

How long will a new roof last with all this shade?
