Local Roofing Contractor in Raleigh, NC | Commercial & Residential
Red Letter Roofing works out of Garner, about fifteen minutes south of downtown Raleigh. That means our crews are on Raleigh roofs most days of the week, not driving in from another state after a storm. We handle commercial and residential roofing across the city, from low-slope membrane on office and warehouse buildings to steep-slope shingle work on hundred-year-old homes inside the Beltline.

Raleigh has four different roofing markets, and we work in all of them
Most cities have one or two typical roof types. Raleigh has at least four, and they need very different skills.
Downtown, Midtown, and North Hills commercial
The office and mixed-use stock downtown, along Fayetteville Street, through Glenwood South, and up into Midtown and North Hills is mostly flat and low-slope. That means single-ply membrane (TPO, PVC, EPDM), modified bitumen, or built-up systems, plus everything that punctures them: HVAC curbs, exhaust fans, grease ducts, satellite mounts, and parapet wall flashing.
Leaks on these buildings almost never come from the field of the membrane. They come from seams, terminations, penetrations, and scuppers or drains that stopped draining. Our commercial work is diagnostic first. We find where water is actually entering before anyone talks about a full tear-off.
Warehouse and flex space on Capital Boulevard and the interstate corridors
The industrial and flex inventory along Capital Boulevard, the I-440 beltline, and the I-40 corridor toward RDU is a different animal again: big uninterrupted spans, metal panel roofs, older ballasted systems, and long runs where a single failing fastener or seam can travel a hundred feet before it shows up as a stained ceiling tile.
We do metal roof restoration and coatings, panel and fastener replacement, and full membrane replacement on these buildings, and we schedule around tenant operations so warehouses keep shipping while we work.
Older homes inside the Beltline
Five Points, Hayes Barton, Oakwood, Boylan Heights, and the surrounding older neighborhoods have steep pitches, cut-up rooflines, dormers, valleys, and chimneys. Some still have original slate. Many have asphalt installed over spaced or skip sheathing that will not accept modern shingles without new decking.
These roofs need a contractor who will open a section, look at the deck, and tell you what is really under there. Complex roofs also mean more flashing, and flashing is where most old-home leaks start: chimney counterflashing, sidewall step flashing, and valley metal that has rusted through.
North Raleigh, Brier Creek, and the newer subdivisions
The subdivisions in North Raleigh, Wakefield, Brier Creek, and out toward Leesville are a huge cohort of homes with builder-installed asphalt shingles that are reaching the end of their service life at roughly the same time. Simpler rooflines, but common issues: undersized attic ventilation, nail pops, granule loss on south and west exposures, and pipe boot collars that crack and leak long before the shingles fail.
What Raleigh weather actually does to a roof
Raleigh sits in a humid subtropical climate, and the roof takes the brunt of it.
- Summer heat and humidity. Long stretches of high heat with poor attic ventilation cooks shingles from underneath and shortens their life. It also drives moisture into decking.
- Pop-up thunderstorms. Fast-moving summer storms bring straight-line wind, wind-driven rain, and occasional hail. Wind damage often shows up as lifted or creased shingles rather than missing ones, which is why it goes unnoticed for years.
- Algae and moss. The dark streaking you see on Raleigh roofs is algae feeding on limestone filler in the shingles. It is cosmetic at first, but shaded north slopes that stay damp will hold moisture and degrade faster.
- Ice and freeze-thaw. Raleigh does not get much snow, but it gets ice. Freeze-thaw cycles work water into existing cracks in flashing, sealant, and old membrane seams and widen them.
- Tropical systems. Remnants of Atlantic hurricanes move inland over the Triangle with sustained wind and heavy sideways rain. That combination finds every marginal detail on a roof at once.
If your building took wind or hail, we document it properly for a claim. See our storm damage restoration page for how that process works.

Where we work
Raleigh is our largest service area, and we cover the whole city: downtown, Midtown, North Hills, Five Points, Oakwood, Hayes Barton, Mordecai, North Raleigh, Brier Creek, Wakefield, Southeast Raleigh, and the Capital Boulevard and I-440 commercial corridors.
We also serve the surrounding Triangle and 20-plus North Carolina counties, including Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Garner, Wake Forest, Carrboro, Morrisville, Apex, Knightdale, and Clayton.
Why hiring a local Raleigh roofer matters
Anyone can put a magnet sign on a truck after a storm. A contractor based here has to live with the work.
We pull permits through the City of Raleigh and Wake County and know how those inspections run. We know which suppliers stock what, so material delays do not stretch a two-day job into two weeks. And when a roof we installed needs a look in five years, we are still fifteen minutes away.
Red Letter Roofing brings years of collective management experience, and roughly 85 percent of our work is commercial. That matters even on a house, because commercial work forces you to be good at the unglamorous parts: flashing details, drainage, and documentation.
Raleigh roofing FAQ
How fast can you get out for an inspection?
For active leaks in Raleigh we prioritize same-week response and often same-day for emergencies. Call (919) 977-5318 and tell the office it is an active leak.
Do I need a full replacement or can this be repaired?
It depends on the age of the system, how widespread the failure is, and whether the deck is sound. A roof with one bad flashing detail is a repair. A roof with widespread granule loss, brittle shingles, or saturated insulation under the membrane is a replacement. We will tell you which one you have.
Do you work with insurance on storm claims?
Yes. We inspect, photograph, and document damage, and we can meet your adjuster on site so everyone is looking at the same roof.
Can you re-roof my building without shutting it down?
Usually yes. Most of our commercial replacements are phased and sequenced so the building stays occupied and operating. We work nights and weekends when the schedule calls for it.
Do you handle gutters too?
Yes. Gutters and drainage are part of the roof system. Undersized or clogged gutters back water up under the shingle edge and rot fascia, so we size and install them as part of the job.
