The Red Letter, Vol 7
John F. Kennedy shared this bit of wisdom in his 1962 State of the Union address:
“The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining.”
We, at Red Letter Roofing couldn’t agree more! It’s better to stay on top of roof maintenance so small problems don’t lead to big headaches! A simple leak can cause thousands of dollars in damage to your home.
If your household is like mine, Spring is a busy time of year. The sun is definitely shining! Steve is excited to have planted his cool season vegetables this past weekend. We look forward to watching potatoes, onions, kale, broccoli, and cabbage growing in neat rows over the next few months.
We have 18 sweet baby goats bouncing around in our barn. Mamas and babies draw crowds of 4-H families every weekend. Thankfully, only three babies need extra bottle feeding, but that means Erin and I get to take turns feeding every two to three hours during the day, and every four hours throughout the night. Piglets are expected in early April, and the second batch of meat chicks should arrive next week. Our farm is always a busy place, but especially this time of year.
Spring means we are finishing up our school year, too. Erin will be taking final exams at NCSU in a few weeks, and my homeschool middle school group will be finished in April.
The Red Letter Roofing team is taking advantage of the warm weather and staying busy with both capital and residential projects. The longer days and mild temperatures make this the ideal time of year to be outside working.
One of the many blessings of a busy life is learning to make time for important things: Faith, family, friends, and creating a happy home. A full life brings these priorities into focus.
When my sisters and I were little, my Grandma Ethel used to sing while she snapped beans or shelled butter beans on her front porch. While we played, she sang,
Lazybones, sleepin’ in the sun,
How you ‘spect to get your day’s work done?
Never get your day’s work done,
Sleepin’ in the noonday sun.
When ‘taters need spraying,
I bet you’ll be praying,
the bugs just fall off the vine.
And when you go fishin’
I bet you’ll be wishin’
The fish just bite off your line.
Grandma Ethel understood that, while everyone needs rest, it’s also important to make time for responsibilities. Fish aren’t going to “catch themselves” and bugs won’t “just fall off the vine” on their own. There is value in hard work and taking care of our responsibilities.
Spring is the perfect time for a “home wellness check”. We recommend checking water and air filters, power washing exterior surfaces, and doing a visual check of shingles and attic spaces for any leaks or past water damage. If you find anything concerning, Red Letter Roofing is here to help! Our trained professionals offer free, no-obligation inspections and recommendations that fit your needs. Schedule a home visit today, while the sun is shining! Let us take care of your roofing needs, so you can focus on all the other important things!
Best,
Shannon Burns
