The Red Letter, Vol 2
It is so easy to forget to be thankful. Modern life is packed full of responsibilities, challenges, and endless to-do lists. If we are not careful, we can “hustle and bustle” away our days, weeks and years – but if we stop and take a breath, even for a moment, we can refocus on our blessings. It’s amazing how a little shift in our thinking can change everything.
I have so many things to be thankful for – A Creator who loves me, my amazing husband and healthy children, a large extended family, friends who are family and an opportunity to improve my little corner of the world. There are so many more things to be thankful for, but I won’t bore you with a lengthy list.
Instead, let me tell you about Tucker.
On June 28, 2019, my husband, Steve, and daughter, Erin, were driving down Old Baucom Road near Clayton. They saw a dog in the middle of the road and slowed to a stop, so they wouldn’t hit him. My husband opened the truck door and spoke to the boxer, telling him he needed to get out of the road before he got hit. At that moment, the dog jumped up into the cab of his truck, thankful to be out of the road. He huddled in the seat, determined to stay safe with them.
They brought Tucker home, and we did all the usual things – we had him scanned for a chip and put his picture on the websites. We took him to the vet, and gave him his shots and dewormers. We had the feeling Tucker was dropped there on that country road because he was no longer wanted. He was thin, but had belonged to someone, who was probably tired of having the responsibilities of a pet. He was a timid and sweet boy who loved to give hugs. We discussed keeping him, but knew it wouldn’t work, since our dog, Daisy, was not a fan.
We searched everywhere for a good home for sweet Tucker. Steve asked around at the office and Jim, his estimator, said he and his wife, Jana, might come meet him. We were away from home when they stopped by to meet Tucker, but they texted almost immediately that they wanted him. How could they not fall in love with that sweet boy?
Tucker went to live with Jim and Jana and his three fur brothers and sisters in Fuquay. We get to see him every week on “Tucker Tuesdays”, when he joins Jim at the office. He offers up hugs to anyone who wants one and greets visitors at the door. He is an important part of the Red Letter Roofing Team and a reminder to be thankful for even little things, like hugs and nubby tail wags.
