The Red Letter, Vol 5
I have a treasured set of pillowcases that were made from cloth flower sacks. My mother and grandmother made them for me using a lacing technique called Mexican Drawn Work that they learned from my great-grandmother. It involves pulling out the cotton fibers in a strip of the fabric, then tying colorful knots into designs to replace those fibers. The result is an intricate band of “lace” that decorates an otherwise boring pillowcase.
The pillowcases are special because they were made by my family, but also because they represent the passing of knowledge down through the generations. Sharing skills with the next generation is vital in keeping true craftsmanship alive – in lace-making, but also in roofing.
Recently, I was able to witness a master craftsman sharing his techniques with the next generation in our backyard. The wellhouse needed a new metal roof, and this was the perfect opportunity for one of our seasoned Red Letter roofers to teach our newest team members the “art” of metal roofing. Cutting and assembling metal takes many seasons to master. It was exciting to see our most experienced metal roofer sharing his expertise with the next generation. What took him 30 years to learn was shared in one morning, and each of the students contributed to the project as they learned.
This is the way to keep craftsmanship alive – by passing knowledge on to the next generation. Sharing expertise is just one of the ways we work hard to meet your roofing needs at Red Letter Roofing. Our Care for our customers, Commitment to excellence, and open Communication guide us in everything we do.
We understand that roofing is an art and install our roofing systems with only the best craftsmanship. You can trust us to take care of all your metal roofing needs and to leave you with products that will stand the test of time. Give us a call and put our expertise to work for you and your family!
